Please check out the revised schedule and breakdown of Saturday, December 8th for an hour-by-hour look at Competition Day.
It’s here! Above is the link for the Rimers Costume Inspo Board. Please excuse any formatting/ ridiculous errors. I’ve been working on this between grad school and fitness classes! Goodwill is a great place to find things for CHEAP! Please know that is absolutely not my intent to have you spend a significant amount of money. If you find something absolutely perfect, but it is insanely expensive, please reach out to me. The department can help with/cover the cost. I love Austin Antique mall for vintage clothing and will still be looking for pieces for you guys as I’m shopping for props. If you order on Amazon, carefully look over sizing (especially for dresses). Sometimes a “small” from China is quite tiny by American standards. I know I’ve gotten this out later than I have in the past. Please try to have complete costumes by Friday, November 16th. If costumes aren’t in yet, please send me a screen-shot of the estimated arrival date. If you are able to get shoes, I’d love for actors to begin wearing them ASAP. Parents and students, thank you so much for all you do!
Friendly Reminder: Students told me they had checked with their parents, and we were all clear to have a later rehearsal time of 10pm on Friday, October 26th and Friday, November 9th. If these don’t work for you, please plan on picking up your child at the normal pick-up time. There will be no consequences; I was just hoping to make up the missed time from when I missed rehearsal due to illness.
Please see the attached blocking schedule for information on characters needed at each rehearsal. This year’s show is much more ensemble-based, so you’ll see that most characters are needed at each rehearsal. Crew should be coming to all rehearsals beginning October 27th and alternates should plan on being at rehearsal beginning October 31. Of course, I am happy to have crew and alternates before these dates. Familiarity with the show is really helpful for crew and alternates get a sense of the process as well. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Congratulations to the cast and crew!
There will be a quick parent meeting on Tuesday, September 4 at 7:00pm to discuss OAP expectations. Please be there if you can. If not, parents and students please text @knightoap to 81010 to join the OAP remind. There is also a GroupMe. You can join by going to this link: OAP GroupMe

We are excited to announce this year’s One-Act Play Company. Again, Mr. Browns and I would like to thank and congratulate on a fantastic callback audition. You guys constantly impress us with your talent and growth. Please come back for the musical; we need your amazing abilities!
Please remember that, while we can be more inclusive with the musical, our casting for One-Act Play is limited by UIL rules. There is a maximum of: 15 actors, 5, crew members, and 4 alternates. Students, please feel free to speak with your directors regarding casting decisions. We respectfully request that you, students, initiate any conversations and you wait one week before initiating it. By waiting one week, you are able to receive any feedback/ critiques with more of an open mind.
To the 2018 UIL OAP Company, please tell your parents there will be a UIL OAP Parent Meeting on Tuesday at 7:00pm. This will be a quick meeting to talk to parents about the OAP process, communicate information, and gather parent information.
Your first rehearsal is on Wednesday, September 4th until 5:30. This will be where you will formally accept your role. We are excited to get to work on this year’s production.
Mr. Browns and I would like to thank everyone for sharing all their amazing talent with us this week. You guys make it harder and harder each year.
Callback auditions will be held immediately after school. At this time, we cannot give you an ending time. We do not plan on being here past 7:30.
Below, you will find the audition sides that will be presented at tomorrow’s callback audition. It is not necessary to memorize anything. These sides are being given to you only so that you may familiarize yourself with them.
Auditions for the 2018 Kelly Lane Middle School One-Act Play (OAP) will be held during class and after-school on the following days:
Monday, August 27
Tuesday, August 28
Thursday, August 29
Callback Auditions: Friday, August 30
Students are encouraged to sign up early as a limited number of slots are available for each day. In-class auditions are open to Theatre students enrolled in the same class period. After-school auditions are open to any students. Parents are not allowed in the cafetorium for auditions at any time.
On Thursday evening, a callback list will be posted along with pages of scripts that will be read during callbacks. Only invited students may come to the callback audition.
For auditions, please prepare:
- One 30-second dramatic monologue
- One 30-second comedic monologue
You may get these monologues from any source you wish. Mrs. Loy will provide time in class to find appropriate monologues as well.
All materials must be turned in with a parent signature in order to audition.
The OAP Audition Packet can be found here: 2018 OAP Audition Packet
Students must complete this packet (with a parent signature) as well as the OAP Audition Google Form or the Crew Google Form in order to be eligible for auditions.
Please use student email to fill out this form.
Parents (especially of 6th graders),
Please note that the UIL One-Act Play script is more mature than our more light-hearted Spring show. At this time, directors have not chosen one script. We have chosen several that we like and allow callback auditions to dictate a final decision. Therefore, we cannot give you a description of the show at this time. Please know that any show has been approved by Mrs. Schaefer prior to being given to students. Thanks!
Break a leg!
